US hamburger chain Shake Shack will pay a former employee $20,000 to resolve a complaint of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation based on gender identity and expression.

The former worker, who was trained in San Francisco and assigned to work in an Oakland area Shake Shack restaurant, alleged that he was repeatedly misgendered by co-workers, according to California’s Civil Rights Department (CRD).
