German pharmaceuticals giant Bayer has agreed to pay $40m to settle alleged violations of the United States’ False Claims Act in connection with three prescription drugs.

The settlement, announced last Friday, arose from two whistleblower lawsuits filed and pursued by Laurie Simpson, a former Bayer employee who worked in the company’s marketing department.
