With the support of France’s taxi unions, a group of almost 2,500 French taxi drivers launched a lawsuit against Uber on Friday alleging unfair competition by the global ride-hailing giant.

The group, which represents around 8% of all taxi drivers in France, is seeking €455m from Uber, which comprises €9,300 (£8,000) a year for each driver in lost wages and compensation for psychological damage.
