Luxury gym chain Equinox must pay more than $11m to a black, female former trainer after a Manhattan federal jury decided on Tuesday that she was subjected to a hostile work environment and ultimately fired based on her race and gender.

One day after it reached a verdict on liability, a jury of five women and three men awarded fitness professional Röbynn Europe $1.25m in compensatory damages and $10m in punitive damages. Europe will also be awarded $16,000 in economic damages representing back pay, which was previously agreed to by the parties.
