A jury has ordered Tesla to pay more than $3m in a racial discrimination case brought by a former black employee of its Fremont, California assembly plant.
Owen Diaz, who worked as an elevator operator at the plant, had accused Tesla of having a racially hostile work environment during his time at the company.
Filing his lawsuit in 2017, Diaz complained of swastikas, racist caricatures, and epithets being drawn on walls by co-workers. He also reported regularly hearing racial slurs, including the n-word, on the factory floor.
