Australia’s gig economy workers will soon be able to negotiate for minimum pay and conditions under proposed new legislation to be tabled before parliament next week.

Employment and Workplace Relations Minister Tony Burke confirmed on Thursday that the new bill will redefine self-employed contractors as “employee-like workers”, giving food-delivery riders and ride-hailing drivers the right to sick leave, annual leave, and minimum pay.
