Alaska Air is set to buy Hawaiian Airlines in a unique $1.9bn (£1.5bn) deal that will see both carriers maintain their respective brands, the companies confirmed late Sunday.

The all-cash deal of $18 per share, already agreed by both boards, will solidify the new combined company as the US’s fifth largest airline with a 365-airplane fleet covering 138 destinations.
