American Airlines has settled a Justice Department claim that the company violated the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA) by underfunding the 401(k) retirement account of an employed veteran.

Thomas P Harwood III, a retired Major General of the US Air Force Reserve, joined the air force in 1981, served as a reservist from 1991 until his retirement in 2016, and has worked for American Airlines as a commercial pilot since 1992.
