British trade union law is incompatible with international human rights legislation as it allows employers to mistreat staff taking part in legal strike action, the UK Supreme Court has held.

The landmark case is the first in which a court has declared UK law to be incompatible with article 11 of European Convention on Human Rights – the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and to freedom of association, including the right to form and join trade unions.
