Spain has recently introduced the obligation for companies seeking to close operations in a workplace to notify trade unions, and the central government and autonomous community labour authorities, six months ahead of time.

The new requirements apply to any complete shut-down of operations in a workplace impacting 50 or more workers, and notification has to be made to the above prior to notifying the workers themselves and six months before the start of the obligatory consultation period.
