Review “computer is always right” law before next Post Office scandal

A law assuming reliability of computer evidence – and under which UK Post Office workers were wrongly prosecuted – must be reviewed to avoid future miscarriages of justice, according to a professional body for the IT sector.

Courts in England and Wales consider computer systems data to always be correct, with no burden on the prosecution to prove its accuracy. Instead, it is up to the defence to provide evidence to the contrary.
