P&O Ferries boss admits job cuts without consultation broke UK employment law

P&O Ferries has admitted that its decision to replace 800 employees with cheaper agency workers last week without consulting unions broke UK employment law.

Last Thursday, UK-based P&O crew were told via a pre-recorded video message that they were to be made redundant with immediate effect. The ferry operator issued a statement the same day explaining that it was operating on a £100m loss and was not “a viable business” without changes to its workforce.
