Japan is set to launch a new, simplified visa pathway system to lure highly skilled foreign professionals to the country and address labour shortages in key industries.

The changes, reportedly coming into effect on 21 April, will allow researchers, engineers, and high-level managers to skip Japan’s points-based immigration system should they meet certain requirements.
