Hewlett Packard has agreed to pay $18m to settle a class action that alleged the firm discriminated against older staff, bringing a seven-year legal battle to an end.

A group of 358 former HP workers claimed they were often passed over for promotion and later terminated based on their race or age, despite their job performance being comparable to their younger, white peers.
