Fast-food giant McDonald’s is in hot water for effectively excluding over-60s from an open night-shift worker role at an Auckland, New Zealand franchise.

The online job advert for a position at the Auckland Central restaurant welcomed applicants of “any age from 16 to 60”. The ad, which has since been taken down, sparked outrage on social media and with unions for being ageist.

From the Unite Union, Joe Carolan described the post as “bizarre” and urged McDonald’s to end its discriminatory practices.
