“Employees today want to know they’re working for a better purpose; that they’re part of an organisation that has positive motives,” says Richard Searle, head of Western Union’s global employment law group. “So many employers now are focused on defining their mission statements and their ethos because it helps to drive passion and engagement. For many years – certainly during my early career – that wasn’t on anyone’s radar, it just wasn’t relevant for employees or employers.”
