Amid increasing concern about pay and working conditions in the gig economy, Beijing is trusting platform giants to voluntarily improve the lives of their workers.

Weakened consumer demand and a saturated platform market is resulting in declining pay and a lack of job security among gig workers globally.  

In China, where 10% of the population or 84 million people now work at least one gig job, there is an ongoing push from President Xi Jinping’s government to improve conditions for platform workers.
