The California Supreme Court has agreed to decide whether a state law that allows platform companies to classify their drivers as independent contractors is constitutional.

In 2019, the California legislature passed Assembly Bill 5, which codified the California Supreme Court’s decision in Dynamex v Superior Court. The ruling established the ABC test to determine whether an individual is an employee or an independent contractor.
