The US Department of Justice announced this week that the government recovered more than $2.2bn through the False Claims Act last year, primarily from lawsuits initially pursued by whistleblowers.

Official data published 7 February shows that there were 351 successful recoveries between January and September 2022, the second-highest number in the Act’s history. Total recoveries since Congress last strengthened the law stand at more than $72bn.
