In multicultural societies, not all public holidays are equally valued. So, should workers be able to exchange these annual holidays for days that are more culturally significant to them? According to consumer goods giant Unilever, yes, they should.
Unilever’s Australia and New Zealand arm launched its “interchangeable holiday policy” in 2021, allowing staff to work regular public holidays in exchange for leave at another point in the year. The company is now pushing for more businesses to follow suit.
