The indictment of a former top aide to two New York governors on charges of spying for the Chinese government has sent shockwaves through US politics. 

Linda Sun held numerous posts within the New York state government, including deputy chief of staff for the current governor, Kathy Hochul, and deputy diversity officer in Governor Andrew Cuomo’s administration, before her arrest on 3 September.
