In recent years, the world has witnessed a significant rise in the digitalisation of personal information, posing new challenges for data protection. To address this concern, the Ecuadorian government enacted the Organic Law of Personal Data Protection (OLPDP) in May 2021. The law aims to protect the personal data of workers and all citizens from unauthorised access, processing, and misuse.

On 26 May, the sanctioning regime of the OLPDP was put into effect, signalling a crucial step towards enhanced data privacy.
