Oman to protect migrants with sweeping labour reforms

Hot on the heels of other reforms already announced this year, Oman’s updated labour law introduces a range of new protections for workers in the Gulf state.

One of the most significant reforms revealed in July involves the treatment of migrant workers, who make up 80% of private sector workers in Oman. Data from February 2021 shows that 29% of the Arab state’s 5 million population, around 1.4 million people, are foreigners.
