Japan’s Nagoya High Court has ruled that the suicide of a 26-year-old factory worker was work-related. The decision means the dead worker’s family is entitled to compensation.
The case once again highlights the serious issue of power harassment in Japan, where one-in-three employees now report experiencing some form of workplace harassment.
Overturning a lower court decision, High Court Judge Yasuhiro Hasegawa ruled that Yosuke Suzuki committed suicide in October 2021 as a result of power harassment by a superior at the Mie branch of the Chubu Electric Power Company.
