India’s Supreme Court has told the nation’s judiciary to uphold the intent and spirit of the law against sexual harassment in the workplace, as the number of victims who fail to receive justice due to technicalities increase.

The court expressed concerns amid “a rising trend of invalidation of proceedings inquiring into sexual misconduct” because of “hyper-technical interpretations of the applicable service rules”.
