Restaurant workers who turned up for work while sick have been linked to four-in-ten known food poisoning outbreaks in the US, federal health officials revealed on Tuesday.

Norovirus and salmonella were the most common causes of around 800 outbreaks between 2017 and 2019, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which has called for better enforcement of “comprehensive food safety policies”.
