New discussions are taking place this week over the Platform Work Directive’s future, with the EU Council offering a watered-down version of the bill rejected by member states last week.
Initially proposed by the European Commission in December 2021, the directive has faced a rocky road on its path to completion, with several member states led by France continuing to argue over its powers.
In particular, the creation of a legal presumption of employment for platform workers caused the collapse of negotiations last December.
