Outgoing employees who leave without using up all their annual leave are entitled to financial compensation, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruled this month.

The case from Italy concerned a municipal worker who decided to take early retirement and requested compensation for the 79 days of paid annual leave they had accumulated before quitting.
