In a landmark judgment, Colombia’s Constitutional Court has ruled that the consumption of drugs outside working hours can be grounds for dismissal in jobs with high safety risks. 

The employee, identified only as “Alfonso”, who worked as an overhead crane operator in a hot-dip galvanising wet area, was fired after failing a voluntary test for cannabis.
