Employers in California will soon have to disclose pay ranges when advertising jobs in a bid to advance pay equity and tackle discrimination.

Senate Bill 1162 was signed into state law earlier this week and goes into effect on 1 January 2023. The law requires companies to make salary ranges for open roles transparent to applicants and employees, and expands pay data reporting requirements to better identify gender and race-based pay disparities.
