Seattle, Washington made headlines earlier this year when it became the first US city to ban caste discrimination. Now California is looking to become the first state to ban this form of bias.

The draft legislation, Senate Bill 403, which was passed by the California State Assembly’s Appropriations Committee on 16 August, will soon be put to a full floor vote by the lower house of the state legislature.
