Three US meat industry giants and a data-consulting firm will pay $85m to settle a Department of Justice investigation into alleged wage fixing as the federal government ramps up efforts to crack down on antitrust violations.

The DoJ’s lawsuit, filed in the US District Court for the District of Maryland, alleges a long-running conspiracy to exchange information about wages and benefits for poultry plant workers in violation of the Sherman Act.
