As children we are confronted by two opposing viewpoints: don’t judge a book by its cover, but first impressions do matter. This duality is acutely felt by many plus-size people who are being disadvantaged the minute they walk through a prospective employer’s door, apply for a promotion, or just going about their working day.
In most instances, weight should not preclude a person’s ability to do a job. And yet discrimination – both conscious and unconscious – still occurs, causing real harm to employees and employers.
