In the nine days since Russia invaded Ukraine more than 2,000 civilians have been killed and over a million refugees have fled the country. In the opposite direction, Ukrainian nationals working abroad are returning to protect their homeland and, in scenes reminiscent of the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War, thousands of foreigners have reportedly answered Ukraine’s call for fighters to help repel the invading forces.
