Spain’s Supreme Court settles debate over reinstating workers terminated during covid

A ruling by Spain’s Supreme Court that employees dismissed during the covid-19 pandemic are not automatically entitled to reinstatement should give employers confidence to defeat similar challenges in the months ahead.

A dispute concerning the uncertainty of pandemic-era employment protections finally found its way to the doors of Spain’s Supreme Court in October. The court was asked to give a definitive ruling on whether employees dismissed during the pandemic should receive compensation and/or reinstatement.
