New York City is to introduce a new vaccine mandate for all private sector employers in a bid to fight the newly arrived omicron variant and an expected surge of covid infections this winter.
The “first-in-the-nation” mandate, which will take effect on 27 December, will apply to private-sector employees who are in a workplace with other co-workers in roughly 184,000 businesses, Mayor Bill de Blasio told a news conference.
The mandate will also apply to customers at indoor dining, fitness, entertainment, and performance venues across the city.
