In a landmark judgment, a high court in India has ruled that the denial of compassionate appointment to a married woman after the death of her bachelor brother amounted to gender discrimination.
The ruling was issued by Telangana High Court Justice P Madhavi Devi in response to a petition filed by the mother and daughter of Naresh Deepa, who died while at work. Naresh was working at Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), a coal mining company jointly owned by the state and federal governments.
