Italian data watchdog Garante has expressed concerns over its failure to recruit talent for four roles specialising in AI regulation, sparking doubts over the ability of European bodies to appropriately regulate the emerging technology.

Garante tried to bolster its team with four new AI experts following its brief ban on ChatGPT last year, but saw over a dozen candidates turn down the role.
