Firms in California are required to pay staff’s working-from-home expenses after IBM lost its bid to dismiss a class action brought by employees seeking reimbursement of internet, telephone, and computer equipment costs.

The case relates to the remote-working costs incurred by thousands of IBM employees after Governor Gavin Newsom ordered all non-essential workers to work from home at the start of the covid-19 pandemic in March 2020.
