On 4 September, Chileans will vote in a referendum on a new constitution. The vote marks the first real update to the country’s constitution since 1980 during Augusto Pinochet’s two-decade long military dictatorship. Amendments to the charter were made in 2005, but these did not include significant change to the overarching ideological line of the 1980 text.
