Deliveroo riders in the Netherlands are employees, not self-employed contractors, the Dutch Supreme Court has ruled, in the latest blow to gig-economy employers.

The 24 March judgment upholds two lower-court decisions that food couriers are still employees even when they enter into services agreements as independent contractors. The decision is expected to have ramifications beyond the gig economy, impacting a host of companies that regularly hire freelancers.
