A jury in Washington, DC has awarded a transgender woman nearly $1m in damages after finding she had been harassed and retaliated against because of her gender identity while working at a McDonald’s franchise.

The case is believed to be the first jury verdict in a transgender employment discrimination case under the DC Human Rights Act.
