Uganda’s Court of Appeal has found in favour of a bank that terminated an employee without reason, ruling it was entitled to do so after providing a payment in lieu of notice.
Also in its 15 November judgment, the court said that where an employment contract is terminated without providing a reason, there is no requirement for a formal hearing.
Stanbic Bank, Uganda’s largest commercial bank, issued Nassanga Saphinah Kasule three months’ pay in lieu of notice, totalling Shs 17 million (£89,100), one day before her termination.
