The UK government has “misled” the public by insisting it does not have a role to play in negotiations between rail companies and striking workers, according to the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and legal advice from a leading employment silk.

The legal opinion undermines the Conservative government’s claims that the ongoing rail dispute must be resolved by the rail operators and unions alone, and that ministers have no input in negotiations.
