An attempt by New York State lawmakers to make the global fashion industry accountable for its human and environmental harms does not go far enough, according to a group of labour and sustainability organisations.

Supporters and industry stakeholders have described the Fashion Sustainability and Social Accountability Act as a potential game-changer as it aims to make major brands and retailers operating in New York more ethical and sustainable.
