Microsoft must update its hiring practices after an investigation found the software giant had violated federal law by requesting unnecessary information on the citizenship status of job candidates.

The US Department of Justice announced it had reached a settlement that resolved allegations that Microsoft discriminated against non-US citizens by asking them to prove they could work without needing sponsorship for work visas.
