The four-day working week pilot launched in the UK on 6 June, with more than 3,300 workers at 70 UK companies taking part, aims to assess whether a shorter working week could improve productivity. The pilot involves employees working 80% of their usual working hours for 100% of their usual pay, with the expectation being that they maintain the same level of productivity despite working fewer hours. The trial also seeks to measure its impact on staff wellbeing, the environment, and gender equality.
