Ongoing wrangling between the Indian government and union leaders has delayed plans to simplify the country’s sprawling and complex network of labour laws, creating more uncertainty for businesses trying to recover from the covid pandemic.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has long planned to replace 29 national labour laws with four simplified labour codes that will make it easier to do business in the country while also improving working conditions for employees.
