Distinguished national team
Overview
Highlighted for its prowess in international advisory work, the team at Veirano is the Brazilian member of the Ius Laboris alliance, offering it a global reach. José Carlos Wahle in Rio de Janeiro is a key point of contact. Team members are also based in São Paolo, Brasília, and Porto Alegre.
Maria Luisa (Isa) Soter is another prominent name within the team. Soter is described by one commentator as “just great”, and offers notable specialism in corporate immigration matters.
The team acts for both domestic and international clients, and is active across the financial services, oil and gas, telecommunications, life sciences, and consumer products sectors, among others.
Specialisms
The department is a go-to for clients seeking support across a host of Brazilian labour law issues – from advice on M&A through to representation before labour courts and the labour ministry, in both individual and collective claims.
A notable area of activity for the group is in issues impacting senior executives. This includes support with both dismissal and resignation agreements, as well as non-compete arrangements.
In the labour relations space, members of the group are well-versed in collective dismissals, collective bargaining negotiations, and disputes.
The group also acts for clients on developing internal policies – including those relating to compensation and benefits. As part of this, it is capable of advising multinationals on how to adapt global policies and procedures to Brazilian law.
Other areas of expertise include health and safety, investigations, intellectual property protection, and outsourcing.
In addition, the team is able to provide training on appropriate conduct and prevention of conflicts.
